Chimney Stabilization, Stone Ridge, NY

New chimney was constructed on soft clay. Construction involved a block foundation over a footing. 3 years after construction, the chimney settled and leaned out away from the house. At roof line the chimney had separated from the house close to 3 inches. Due to the excessive lean of the chimney, FSI constructed a support frame with four helical piles. The frame used custom fabricated hinges and prevented the chimney from leaning any further. Once the support frame was installed, FSI excavated and exposed the footing. Piles were installed and connected to high strength foundation brackets. After the piles were installed, FSI attached hydraulic load jacks to two brackets and lifted the front of the chimney back up and closed the 3 inch gap. After the lift, FSI removed the support frame and back filled around the chimney.
